The Market Shaping Accelerator is led by the world’s leading market shaping scholars including Nobel laureate Michael Kremer (UChicago), Professor and President or Center for Global Development Rachel Glennerster (UChicago and CGD), and Professor Christopher Snyder (Dartmouth). MSA aims to catalyze the development of Advance Market Commitments and other market shaping mechanisms to incentivize innovations addressing pressing global challenges such as climate change and biosecurity.  MSA identifies promising opportunities, develops high-impact proposals, and engages with policymakers and funders.

About the role

The Market Shaping Accelerator is seeking to hire a postdoctoral scholar in economics to lead and contribute to high-impact market shaping proposals focused on addressing climate change, biosecurity, and other pressing global challenges. This position will provide the candidate with a unique opportunity to apply their graduate school training to real-world problems with significant potential for global impact.

Candidates should have a strong background in applied economic theory and, ideally, empirical methods. They should have a strong economic intuition, and be able to develop models to answer relevant questions that pertain to the design of innovation incentives in contexts with substantial market failures. They should also be well-versed with empirical methods to quantify the impact of climate and health-related innovations on the economy. They should be enthusiastic about influencing policy.

As a postdoctoral scholar at the Market Shaping Accelerator, you will work closely with Professor Rachel Glennerster (UChicago and CGD), Professor Christopher Snyder (Dartmouth), and other colleagues in a small, dynamic team environment. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with policymakers, economists, and philanthropists.

This one-year position has no teaching commitments and 20% of the scholar’s time will be allocated to their own research. Applicants with a tenure track offer who are able to defer it for one year are given priority. This position can be based at Dartmouth College or in Washington D.C.
